MOSCOW, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Russia's foreign trade surplus declined sharply in the first two months of 2026, falling by 33.3 percent year on year to 14.1 billion U.S. dollars, local media reported on Friday.

According to data released by the Federal Customs Service of Russia, the country's total foreign trade turnover reached 99.3 billion dollars in January-February, down 4 percent compared with the same period last year.

Exports stood at 56.7 billion dollars, marking a decrease of 9 percent, while imports rose by 3.5 percent year on year to 42.6 billion dollars.

Mineral products continued to dominate Russia's export structure, accounting for 50.4 percent of total exports during the reporting period. Meanwhile, machinery, equipment and other goods made up the largest share of imports at 48.5 percent.

Regionally, Asian countries remained Russia's largest trading partners, accounting for 74.8 percent of total trade, although trade turnover with the region edged down by 1.6 percent year on year.

Trade with European countries represented 18.3 percent of Russia's total and declined by 7.8 percent. The share of the Americas stood at 3.8 percent, with turnover down 9.6 percent, while Africa accounted for 3.3 percent, with trade dropping by 22.4 percent, the data showed. ■
