LA PAZ, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Bolivia's oldest living woman, 118-year-old Julia Flores, also known as "Mama Julia" was admitted to hospital on Wednesday in the central city of Cochabamba.

According to her niece, Agustina Verna Flores Colque, she had been hospitalized two weeks ago and had been recuperating.

"But she had a relapse due to a series of complications, and as a result has to be admitted to hospital again," she added.

Julia Flores is considered as Bolivia's oldest living woman, and possibly the oldest in the world, since the oldest living woman recognized by the Guinness World Records, Jamaica's Violet Brown, passed away in 2017 at the age of 117.

According to her identity document provided by the Bolivian government, Julia was born on Oct. 26, 1900 in Charcas in the province of Potosi.

She currently lives in Sacaba, Cochabamba with the family of one of her distant nieces. "Mama Julia" only speaks quechua, a native South American language, like many of her family members.

"We become very sad when we took her to the hospital, because I think that at any moment she is going to leave us. Being with her is a joy, but we are also very concerned about her health," Colque said.
